You want to make a difference. There are some great resources out there if you're looking for activist jobs. In most cases, you won't land on the list of the world's wealthiest people as many are volunteer positions. But you'll have something far more gratifying—the knowledge that you helped incite change in areas that particularly need it.

Here are just a few of the myriad options.

Idealist.org

Idealist.org is a combination job search database, volunteer activities database, and a social networking tool. Think of it as a combination of Facebook and Monster.com, but geared specifically toward activism. If you're considering a career in social justice and haven't checked this site out, you're missing out on something wonderful.

Feminist Career Center

This directory is a project of the Feminist Majority Foundation. It lists feminist jobs all over the country. If you care about women's rights in any area, from general feminist advocacy and activism to specific causes, such as domestic violence prevention, checking this list of jobs is a must.

Activist Job Board

This site promises to help you "find a job that makes a difference," and it delivers. You can even sort jobs by category to cater to your interests, from disaster relief to immigration issues.

The United Nations

Yes, the United Nations. With the right degree, you can get your foot in the door with the U.N. Talk about being in the right place to make a change—global change.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International regularly posts job openings and it also offers many types of internships. Search for it online and give it a click.

Other Options

Earn a degree that will put you on the path to where you want to go. Numerous colleges and universities offer undergraduate and even Master degrees in social activism. Look for "public interest careers" when you do your search.

Don't overlook a social service career either. Social activism addresses a very broad spectrum, but you can also effect change one precious life and step at a time. Sometimes individuals experiencing hardship and roadblocks through no fault of their own don't immediately experience the relief of social change. You might be able to change their lives within the existing system. Better yet, consider doing both. Volunteer on the large scale and roll up your shirtsleeves for those in immediate need. The possibilities are endless: social work, law, and politics, to name just a few.

Keep Up With the Times

It goes without saying, but the job scene and in-the-news causes can change daily. Don't limit yourself to this list. Explore your interests. Do an Internet search for the things you care most about.
