The Republican Congress under the Bush administration is better known for taking away rights from lesbian and gay couples than protecting them, but the recently-passed Pension Protection Act has changed all that. Gay Life Guide Ramon Johnson has written a detailed summary of how the bill affects lesbian and gay couples, allowing the transfer of pension funds to authorized non-spouses and allowing authorized non-spouses to withdraw IRA funds in emergency situations, an option previously limited to spouses.
