The 2008 Day Without a Gay Protest

By Tom Head, About.com

What It Was:

On December 10th, 2008, a group of online activists organized a combined boycott and labor strike for LGBT Americans and allies (who were asked to "call in gay" and do volunteer work instead).

Who Organized It:

Aaron Hartzler and Seth Hetherington, two online LGBT rights activists. The event was promoted through JointheImpact.com.

What It Accomplished:

The boycott/strike increased media exposure surrounding the anti-Proposition 8 protests, but did not appear to have the profound effect or profound turnout that 2006's Day Without Immigrants did.
