Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court began its 2006-2007 term with 38 cases already on the docket and dozens more certain to come. These three are already generating buzz:

- Gonzales v. Carhart, which will decide the fate of the 2003 "partial-birth" abortion ban.
- Lopez v. Gonzales and Toledo-Flores v. United States, which will determine whether state felonies must qualify as federal felonies for immigration purposes.
- Ornoski v. Belmontes, which will tell us whether a convicted murderer's rehabilitation may be taken into account when determining whether or not to put him to death.
