Four Reasons to Oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment

Thursday June 1, 2006
Category: Gender and Sexuality

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate will vote on--and fail to pass--the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), which reads as follows:
SECTION 1. Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution or the constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups.
After reading Amy Hess' excellent article in favor of the FMA and against gay marriage, I was inspired to write a rebuttal.

Want to rebut my rebuttal? Have another opinion to share? Speak your mind in the Forums, where readers are already fiercely debating the issue.
