BBC technology commentator Bill Thompson has a strong opinion about the U.S. government's recent interest in Google search engine results. But while Thompson is heartened by Google's decision not to pass private user information along to the government without a warrant, he asks the logical followup question: Why do search engines need to store so much information on us in the first place?
